Needing a break from Destiny, I decided to go back to my pile and see what I could easily strike off. Having completed the Batman: Arkham Origins back in July, all that remained was the Cold, Cold Heart DLC, and as it was only short and I had a Sunday afternoon free, I decided to delve back into the Gotham.
I won’t go into spoilers, but if you haven’t put two and two together, the Cold, Cold Heart DLC is focusing on the Mr. Freeze origins, and through the form of gameplay and flashbacks, you get the learn how Dr. Victor Fries became Mr. Freeze, which was well told.
The gameplay is very similar to the main game with a few additions. Firstly a new mob, a henchman of Mr. Freeze that had an ice gun. These initially were a pain in the butt, as you’d be in mid fight, only to be frozen in place making you spam the X button to get free. However once I got used to them, I used them to my advantage as they could also freeze any mobs that got in the way.
Secondly, there was the new XE Batsuit (Extreme Environment), which as you can see from the picture above makes you look kinda bad ass. Apart from giving you resistance to extreme cold, it also replaces the charge/shock gloves with thermal gloves allowing you to break through ice walls.
Finally, your shock batarang gets replaced with thermal batarangs, allowing you to use stalactites to your tactical advantage.
Apart from the fact that it took me about an hour to get back into the groove with the controls, I really enjoyed this DLC. The only annoyance I had was I bought the season pass, to find this was the only story DLC there was. This as a standalone at the current price of £7.99 might not be worth it for an extra couple of hours of story, but if it ever comes on sale, it’s worth snapping up for an afternoons play.
