What can I say, what a fun game !
I’m a huge fan of first person shooters, however there are loads out there that take themselves far too seriously, which makes them more of a grind then fun. As with Battlefield Bad Company, the banter between your team it brilliant and make it feel like a living breathing team. On a number of occasions, I found myself laughing out loud at some of the dialogue
The storyline itself picks up from where Battlefield Bad Company left off. As usual I’d like to be spoiler free, as I don’t want to really spoil the story. I can however tell you that you play the role of Preston Marlowe from the first game, and are accompanied by Sweetwater, Haggard and the Serg, and your on a mission….to do something….(See, that was spoiler free :))
The game itself is a true roller coaster, each mission is unique enough to keep you interested, and follow a linear storyline. This is something I feel is lacking from some of the other army based first person shooters out there. Each mission played out like a small story of it’s own, a good beginning, fast paced middle, and epic conclusion. It’s been a while since I’ve played a game where I’ve not wanted to stop playing. About half way through the game, I’d completed my current mission and was going to quit for the night, I waited for the cut scene to finish so I could turn it off and found myself with a sniper rifle in hand in a lookout tower….obviously there was no way I could leave it there, and beat that level too.
Each mission itself varies it up, varying from being camped in a building, to switching to a sniper to take out some long range enemies, to driving a jeep, to manning a turret on a helicopter, I honestly never once got bored.
There was only one mission I really struggled with and very nearly rage quit. This mission started in a wooden hut, with snipers in the trees, and men heading towards me with RPG’s. Granted I had a sniper, but once you’ve got multiple RPG’s firing at you, it’s hard to stick your nose out to get the shot, especially with the destructible universe and the shed falling apart around me.
The game physics work really well, the environment is destructible, which means if your style of playing is to camp in a building, your probably not going to last too long. On many occasions I hid behind objects, fired off a couple of shots, only to have it blown up by an RPG. This you can also use to your advantage, there was one stage where I was struggling to take out a guy on the top of a building, I shot an RPG at the lower floor of the building, and the entire building came crashing down.
The visuals…..stunning ! The sounds, amazing….when something blows up ! the house shakes !
Quite simply, this game is fantastic, and would highly recommend to anybody, I’ve heard the multiplayer is really good, but not got around to playing that yet.
