AND THEN! Sony happened and boy they did not quit on the games. It was just a constant barrage of game after game. Here’s an overview of what they had to show.
Right off the bat we got an very random orchestra, lead by Bear McCreary (the dude that does all the music for The Walking Dead and other stuff you’ve seen) Then the theatre went dark and God of War happened. It looks like a cross between God of War and The Last of Us. It’s nice to see they’re trying something new with the series.
They then showed footage from Bend Studios with a game called Days Gone. The game is set in a post apocalyptic world where zombies have taken over…
Sony then showed off the rather beautiful looking Horizon Zero Dawn with some exclusive gameplay footage. This game looks like it could be something special. Check it out for yourself.
Then gameplay was shown of David Cage’s title Detroit Become Human. The footage showed just how diverse your choices can be and how every action you do is going to drastically effect the outcome of specific scenarios.
Then one of the bigger announcements was Resident Evil 7! It seems that Capcom was trying to pull peoples eyes with the PlayStation VR tech demo; The Kitchen. This was all to lead up to the announcement of RE7. Now I know what you may be thinking, yes everything Resident Evil game as sucked since RE4, however, it looks like Capcom have taken heavy inspiration from PT and are making a full title out of it. Also; You can play the game from beginning to end in PlayStation VR. To cap off the announcement of RE7 was the downloadable demo that is available to play right now. Expect a quick look of the game at some point today.
It was announced afterwards that PlayStation VR would be released October 13th 2016. Sony then proceeded to show off some VR titles coming to it’s platform, whilst promising that there would be 50 games out by years end. Below are the VR titles that were announced.
First off was Farpoint, a VR title that looks like it’s Mass Effect but more…shooty.
Next was Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission. It looks like this will just be a VR experience where you get to fly an X-Wing and take fools down. Looks really nice, however it is just that one mission.
The the surprise announcement of Batman Arkham VR! Seems that Rocksteady have been busy and are releasing a PlayStation VR exclusive title, coming this October. I’ll be super interested to see what this is. Is it a tech demo or a fully fledged game? We’ll see come October.
Then there was the Final Fantasy XV trailer, also highlighting the fact there will be a VR part to the game where you get to transport to various areas of an arena and kill monsters with guns! Best guess is that Final Fantasy XV: VR Experience will be a separate mode within the game. Check it out below.
They then immediately cut into gameplay footage for Call of Duty Infinite Warfare. They showed dog fights in space as well as on foot shooting…IN SPPPPAAAACCCCCEEEE. It didn’t actually look too bad, however what was shown was heavily scripted as CoD games are notorious for. They then showed a brief snippet of the Modern Warfare remake.
Then Sean Layden walked out with a Crash Bandicoot shadow to announce that they’d partnered with Activision to remaster Crash Bandicoot 1, 2 and Warped exclusively for PlayStation 4. They also announced that Crash would be a playable character in Skylanders Imaginators.
Then Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens. They showed off a trailer and announced a demo is available on the PlayStation Store RIGHT NOW! Then again, if you’re going to buy it anyway because it’s Lego and Star Wars you only have a couple weeks to wait.
Next up was Andy House came out to introduce “…one of the most creative talents in the history of gaming” Cue rapturous applause and a orchestral score as Hideo Kojima seemed to descend from…somwhere, all so he could announce his new title Death Stranding. The trailer showed nothing gameplay wise, however it did reveal that Norman Reedus would be in the game and apparently his bare ass as well.
Then the reveal that Insomnic games of Ratchet & Clank and Sunset Overdrive fame would be working with Marvel to release a new Spider-Man title, exclusively for PlayStation. A gameplay trailer was shown to tease the game and what there was of it looked really nice. Maybe we’ll finally get a good Spider-Man game as there hasn’t been one since Spider-Man 2.
They then closed the show with a live gameplay demo of Days Gone. The game looks like a super serious Dead Rising but with World War Z type zombies.
And that was day two of E3 press conferences. Some really interesting stuff looks to be coming out of all of the studios. The only thing the Sony conference felt like it was missing was the indie showcase they normally have and maybe a ‘one more thing’ title at the end. That’s not to say that what they did show was pretty great.
GAMES AM I RIGHT?!
