Next up was Ubisoft with it’s reveal of Watch_Dogs 2. Information had been leaked a while ago that the game existed and a teaser had been released on Monday but now, now we know what Watch_Dogs 2 is! It’s…more Watch_Dogs!
Now the first game was met with a ‘meh’ feeling by most online and while it didn’t massively innovate on the open world genre it did have some cool aspects to it. With the hacking that you could do, it’s rather shrunken down vision of Chicago it did a very good job at making the world around you feel like it was living and breathing. With each person having a name, personal details, being able to hack into peoples lives and spy on them at times. The game did a good job at making the NPC’s feel like they were more than just cardboard cutouts. It looks like what Ubisoft are trying to do is innovate on that some more, by giving us that living, breathing world on a much larger scale. This time around we’re on the west coast of America; San Fransisco. If they can make a full scale San Fran and have all the key places in there then this could be really special.
Personally, I had a lot of fun with the time I spent with Watch_Dogs. Being set in a Chicago, a city I knew very well (to a point of where I was going to move there a couple years ago) it was strange to drive around and go to key landmarks that I had visited a bunch of times previously, while also noticing a lot had been cut out. Yes the game had it’s problems but that never overshadowed my enjoyment of it. I can’t help but feel that Watch_Dogs 2 will be what Assassins Creed 2 was to the original Assassins Creed. Adapting almost everything, making everything bigger and potentially turning the series into a massive hit.
I guess we’ll find out November 15th of this year!
