Defence Grid : The Awakening has been a game I’ve been chipping away at for some years now. If I remember correctly, I originally bought it on a Steam sales back in 2008, and just never got around to completing it. As I’m a sucker for a sale, the game plus DLC came on offer on the XBOX360 last year and I picked them all up again, but stop playing around half way through…..finally after five years, I’ve seen the end credits roll.
Defence Grid : The Awakening is as you can hopefully guess a tower deference game. Simply, you put down towers in the most optimal positions to take out waves of enemies from stealing your cores. Once all the cores are gone, the power shuts down and it’s game over.
One of the things that sets this apart from other tower defence games for me is the narrative. Each level brings you a little snippet of story, narrated by Jim Ward (who you’ve heard many times before in games), slowly building into a end of game/story climax. Once the credits roll, you feel like you’ve been on an emotional journey with Fletcher (Jim Wards character).
I’m a huge fan of tower defense games, and have to be honest, this game is the one I always use as a benchmark as being the perfect tower defense game (Bold statement I know)
If your a fan of tower defense, and haven’t played this, it’s available via Steam and XBOX Live.
