OpenFeint for those of you that don’t know is one of a few social networks for the iPhone/iPod Touch. It works similar to Xbox live, as in you can see what your friends have been playing, their OpenFeint score (kinda like the Xbox gamerscore), and also message and IM them. It also give you the ability to join your friends for a game of whatever your playing.
Anyway back to Depict, essentially it’s Pictionary, but on the iPhone/iPod Touch. You have the option of playing a Quickmatch (which puts yup up against up to 4 random players from around the globe), or play with friends. This is where OpenFeint comes in, you get the option to add friends from your OpenFeint friends list, if non of these are online, it will send them a Challenger request, essentially asking them to join you in a game.
The game itself is quite simple. The game is split into 5 rounds, which consist of 1 person drawing, and the other 4 people have to guess what you have drawn. Once the round is complete, the next person draws and the other 4 have to guess, and so on, and so on, until all 5 rounds are complete.
Each round starts, and you are presented with 6 multiple choice possible answers, and when you think you know the answer, select 1 of the 6 answer, if you are the 1st to answer you’ll get 4 points, 2nd to answer you’ll get 3 points, etc.
If you start the round, and you are the one drawing, one of the 6 multiple choices will be highlighted for you, and you use the provided colour palette to attempt to draw the object. The scoring system seems to work based on the amount of people get it right.
There also seem to be a whistle in the top corner, I’ve been in a few games now, where somebody would just write what the object is meant to be, this is where the whistle comes in, blow it, and they get kicked for cheating 🙂
The game also has quite a lot of OpenFeint Achievements, and seem to be quite heavily loaded, for example 20 OpenFeint points for earning a total of 20 points and 40 OpenFeint points for earning 50 points.
The game is extremely addictive, and best of all it’s free! There are some in-game purchases, for example Custom Avatars, and the Lightning Round however these are only 59p each in the UK store.
The only downside of this game, is that after only a couple of hours playing, I’m starting to see the same questions/answers being repeated, however not everybody draws the same, so it’s no biggy
