Finally, after 2 and a half months, I’ve got through the Fallout 3 DLC. Probably not the best mindset to be playing an open world game, but I really need to get this game back to the rental company
Like the other Fallout 3 DLC (except Broken Steel), this can be played at anytime during the game, and as with the others, this is a solo mission…companion have to stay on the mainland.
The story starts when you track down a radio transmission coming from an alien crash site, where you’re then beamed onto the mothership. As with all reviews, that’s all I’ll say on the story in an attempt to be spoiler free, however it’s a solid 5 hours worth of questing on a spaceship.
The DLC started off very promising, and by the time I’d completed the 2nd major quest, I was considering this to be better than my previous favourite The Pitt, but then it started to drag for me. I finished the first 2 quests in around 2 hours, it was fast paced, enjoyable, and interesting, however the final mission took me about 3 hours. Now granted there were some interesting locations, but it just seemed to be a very linear kill room, into kill room, into kill room. In the entire DLC there were only a handful of mobs, and weapons, so once you’d learnt which weapon took out which mob, it all gets very samey.
Don’t get me wrong, there were some interesting concepts, and if the 3rd mission had have been a 3rd of the length, this would have been an outstanding DLC….but it just felt like it dragged.
As this is the final DLC for Fallout 3, and as I’ve previously completed the main game…I actually got a little emotional at the end. I finished the DLC, fast traveled to ‘My Megaton House’, unloaded my inventory, and one last look around, and switch off the game, in the knowledge that as a rental, I wouldn’t be coming back to this world. The clock on my save game was at over 75 hours, and even though some of the DLC has been a little average, and the game is glitchy as hell, I’ve really enjoyed the experience.
The game of the year edition is probably around a tenner now, and can highly recommend it.
Approx Time taken to beat – 5 hours
