Review – Fallout 3 – Point Lookout

August 11, 2012

Point lookout, similar to Operation : Anchorage and The Pitt can be played at anytime during the game, and it seems that only the Broken Steel DLC is a continuation of the main story once the game is complete.

The DLC starts in Riverboat Landing, which can be found SSE on the map, where you catch the Dutchess Gambit ferry to Point Lookout. Even though you can do this DLC pretty much straight away, I was charge 484 caps for the privilege, so make sure you have enough. You can trade with the ferry man (Tobar) if you’re closer to him than to another vendor. Also, the trip is only for you, if you have a companion, they have to stay on the mainland and can’t accompany you.

Point Lookout itself is a very dark and dreary place swampland, and reminded me a lot of the Zombie Island DLC from Borderlands.

As alway, I don’t want to give any spoilers, however it is a clear cut 5 missions on the main story arc, with 3 achievement/trophies for completing the main quest line. There are addition side missions/achievements to be had, however I didn’t do these.

I would like to point out, that I know Fallout 3 is an 18 rated game, so you shouldn’t really have children with you while you’re playing, however the language coming out of one of the NPC (Desmond) was a little over the top. The thing is, most people swear, most people say the F word, but each time he said it (and he said it a lot), he put some real emphasis on it…I found it quite off-putting.

As with a lot of the DLC, you have your morality decision to make, and if you’re not sure you’ve made the right one, you get a 2nd chance to make up your mind.

The DLC does tell an interesting story, however with my current mindset of wanting to get this DLC finished, I found it a little longer than I wanted it to be. I do wish however, I’d have played this before completing the game, as some of the pickups/drops would have been useful in the main game.

All in all, not bad, but still The Pitt seems to be my favourite DLC so far.

Approx Time taken to beat – 4 hours

Difficulty setting – Normal

Score – [Rating:3/5]
