The Vita version of Final Horizon is currently a freeby as part of December Playstation Plus offerings.
Although the game is described as a tower defence game, it’s different enough to make stand out from other games in the genre. The game spans over eighty quick fire levels, taking less than five minutes to complete each. Although you get the standard towers you get in the majority of tower defence games, for example the gun turret, the anti-air, the fire turret and electrical turret, you also have a turret the generates resources. With there only being a handful of places on the map you can drop these turrets , you have to be very strategic, and are forced to switch out the turret on a regular basis to adapt to the incoming enemies.
On most levels, once you’ve got a certain amount of kills, you enable that levels kill streak attack. Dependant on level, this could either be a type of bombardment that wipes out the entire map, a type of ion laser that you control or possibly one of the gatling turrets.
Most of the levels have a similar ‘protect [something]’ goal to complete the level, however there tend to be additional bonus objectives too. These are normally ‘[something] takes no damage’, or ‘complete the level in under x seconds’, or possibly the hardest one to get is ‘get x amount of kills with the kill streak’. With the game being fast paced, it’s sometimes quite difficult to have enough enemies on the screen to reach the kill streak target, however after a few goes, and working out that I had to let my towers take a little kicking, I’ve been able to 100% the majority of the levels.
It’s probably worth pointing out that I played through this entire game exclusively on my Playstation TV, and it worked perfectly.
If you’re a fan of tower defence games, and want something you can play in bite sized chunks, then I can highly recommend this game.
