Infamous, now this is a game I’ve been longing to play for a little while, however I’ve just been putting it off. Recently it came down on price to under the £20 mark, so I took the plunge and bought it. I think the main reason I’ve been avoiding this game is due to it’s sheer size. I played the demo around 5 months ago and loved it, reminded me of a GTA style game.
So, how was it ?….it was great fun !, The game play itself had a lot of elements from any other great games. The main gameplay was a GTA style, an open world environment, when you can go anywhere, and do anything.
As the game advances, and your powers increase, this feels very much like Star Wars : Force Unleashed, the climbing feels a lot like Assassins creed and finally, the grinding on the rails, is very much Tony Hawks. If you dislike any of these games, then your probably not going to like this.
The game starts off with some beautiful artwork, telling the story of of events leading up to the explosion that caused the mess you are in. Essentional, you were a courier, a package you were carrying blows up, destroys 3 islands, and leaves them all without electricity. Many people are dead and wounded, however it seems to have the oposite effect on your character, and you start to become super human !
Basically, you become the master of electricity, and use this to your advantage. Electricity in this game is both your ammo, and your health, and you can syphon this from….well practically anything that contains electricity, lights, cars, fuseboxes…..even humans !
As you play through the game, you get to make a lot of good vs bad decisions, which in turn changes your powers, changes how the story unfolds, and changes how the people see you. As you run through the game, you earn XP, however you don’t level up as such, you just use this a currency in the game to buy your upgrades.
For a change I ran through this type of game as Evil, normally I just play, and end up being good (must be in my nature), however I purposely played this evil to see how it felt. An example would be, help some dude, and hope he gives you a reward, or just kick his arse and take what he’s got.
The game basically goes like this, climb through a sewer tunnel, switch on the power, get a new power, fight your way out of said tunnel to practice your new power, head for surface. Once on surface, fight multiple villians, do multiple side quests, of find the missing package, remove security cameras from a building, a few escort missions, then main quest mission, then repeat. I probably haven’t made that sound too appealing, but it’s essentially what the game it.
The storyline is very good, full of twists and turns, and although I’ve only played through once, I’m pretty sure the game changes based on the decisions you’ve made throughout the game.
I played this game through on hard, which for me is quite an accomplishment, as I’m one of these “play through on normal” kinda guys, as I like to enjoy the game. This however made the final boss ridiculously hard, and after around 20 attempts, I decided to knock the hardness down to medium just so I could complete the game, it was either this or attach elastic to you controller, and it got thrown a couple of times !
Apart from the nearly impossible end of game boss, I had only 1 other bug bare…..uneven surfaces….I know, strange. Your character is brilliant and jumping up buildings, from buildings to other objects etc, however if your in an area where you building is on the piss due to being in a destroyed area, your character seems to gain the inability to grab them straight away, just a slight annoyance.
I would point out very good thing about this, the checkpoints are very generous, so even if you get your butt kicked, you don’t normally have to replay more than a few minutes of game
All in all, a really enjoyable game, plan to run through the game at a later date, to see what it’s like playing a good guy 🙂
