Limbo has been sat on my virtual Pile of shame for some time now, and tends to be my ‘go-to, got a few beers in my and want something to play’ games.
The concept is quite simple, you control an unnamed boy through various puzzles to find your sister, however the physics based puzzles are far from simple and often quite dangerous.
The hazards in the puzzles can crush you, smash you, electrocute you, saw you in have, impale you and various other ways of making you very dead, and normally take a few attempts of trail and error until you work out what to do.
One thing that really sets this game apart is the colourless art style, and just how atmospheric it can be by simply using lighting effects. At times this was quite eery, at times used very well to hide traps, while all the time being a feast for the eyes.
According to Steam, this game has taken me a total of 3.8 hours to complete, take into consideration that most of the time I had at least a couple of beers in my, shouldn’t take a normal sober person any more than a couple of hours, that is unless you go for an egg hunt. Throughout most of the puzzles, there are eggs you can get to which are in awkward locations. I picked up a few on my travels, however without FAQing, I expect some of them could add a couple of hours to the total time.
Really enjoyed this game, it was new (well to me anyway) and refreshing, and just wish that I’d have got through it a lot sooner.
