As part of my mini quest to complete all the Mass Effect 3 DLC, I’ve finally got around to playing and completed the final Citadel DLC, so I can now put this game to bed.
As with the other pieces of DLC, the story starts on you private terminal on the bridge of the Normandy asking you to….yup, got to the Citadel, as requested by Anderson, as he has a little something for you. As you arrive, you are directed to a rather spacious apartment which has been given to you, and this is your base for the DLC.
The DLC is split into two halves, first part in the investigation, shooting, and being your normal bad ass Shepard self, and the second half is catching up with your former/current team mates. I don’t really want to discuss the first half as this is story based and will take you around four hours to complete, however what I can talk is the second half.
Once the main mission is complete, you head back to your apartment and you have free roam. As you walk around, there are datapads with excerpt from David Andersons autobiography, most of which relate to you, and the events that have happened over the last three games.
You have then the option to throw a party for you team mates, and are tasked with picking up the party supplies. There are also additional entries on your private terminal to ‘go meet x at y’, essentially a way of catching up and having a private chat with your ‘mates’. At this point, if you wanted to finish the DLC quickly, you could pick up the party supplies, throw the party, mingle, and jobs done…however you would be missing out on so much.
Your apartment is on the Silversun Strip level in the Citadel, which not only gives you a terminal to buy the party supplies, but gives you loads to explore and do. There’s a arcade with a lot of playable games, a casino with futuristic variations of roulette and slot machines, and even a dance floor if you want to get your groove on, however the place I spent most of my time was the Armax Arsenal Arena.
The Arena is essentially a single player version of the multiplayer side of Mass Effect 3, instead of you and real life players, it’s you plus two team mates. You get to select arena, select your enemy, what level of enemy, any score multiplier, and your team, and off you go for three rounds against your chosen enemy. As you win matches, you win tokens that then unlock additional levels, multipliers, teammates etc. I think I played around twenty matches to clean up on the achievements associated with this area.
Once I’d finally cleaned up in the Arena, Casino, Arcade and caught up with all my mates, I went back to my apartment and threw the party. This consisted of a little bit of music, a lot of chatting about the good old days, and how we were going to kick arse. After an nights partying, you then get to have further conversations ‘the morning after’.
If you’re anything like me, the first half of the game will take you around four hours, but the second half took me a good five to six hours as I was just enjoying being in the world again, with a new locations to explore. As I’d already completed the main Mass Effect 3 story, I would personally suggest playing this before the last mission, as it feels like a great send off, and a farewell to you mates.
All in all, this is fantastic for 1200 points, a decent story, and loads to do afterward to keep you entertained for a good ten hours.
