First of all, it’s no spoiler to say, this DLC focuses on the Omega mining facility, the very same facility that plays a huge part in Mass Effect 2.
In Mass Effect 2, Omega always felt like the Mos Eisley of the Mass Effect universe, full of villainy, smugglers, and the place you go to stay under the radar, so obviously I was quite excited to go back there and once again experience the atmosphere. Unfortunately even though you are apparently on Omega, there is very little that looks familiar, and most of the time you could just be on any old space facility. Granted there are a number of backdrops of drills, but again, it could be any drilling facility.
The Omega DLC starts with a message on your personal terminal to suggesting you pop down to the Citadel (Dock 42) to see Aria T’loak. She requests that you leave your entire team behind and go on the mission with her, meaning that if you have your preferred team to take off world, those tactics get thrown out of the window.
The DLC is essentially battle through kill room after kill room, to then get to pockets of humanoids. In this areas, you can walk around talk to people, and pick up side missions. I have to admit, this felt more like a proper mission that the Leviathan DLC, in the fact that you got the pause the action with a handful of ‘walking around talking to people’ section.
I have to say, there were some great cinematics towards the beginning, some good action sequences, a morality choice, and what felt like a conclusion worthy of the build up. I did however feel that I was let down because there was very little of the Omega I knew, loved, and looked forward to seeing again.
All in all, not a bad way to spend 1200 points and four hours of your life.
