You may have seen a number of videos going up on our YouTube channel and though, “What are these two muppets up to now?”, so I thought it deserved a post to explain a little.
As you may have heard on the podcasts, we like to cover the monthly offering from both Games With Gold and Playstation Plus, and have a brief discussion of if it’s something that we see ourselves playing. Normally when we do our minimal research, we find a video showing us all the bests bits of the game, or one with talking….all over it. So we decided, “Hey, you know what? As we’re getting all the games as part of our subscriptions, we should really hit the record button on each of the games and share. These will give people a ‘Quick Look’ at the games they have potentially waiting to download, or hogging space on their drive, and get a feel for what the game is actually like.
As for the video format, we decided to simply hit record, and play up to a point where we felt we’ve experienced enough of the game to know if we’d continue or delete (the 20 minute rule), and thus, record unbiased footage.
I hear you ask, “The internet is full of ‘Let’s Play’ videos, what makes you’re so different?”, the simple answer is, there’s no talking, we’re just average joe player, if we get stuck, you’ll probably get stuck, if we find something easy, again, you should find it easy, we’re not in it for the money, or have expectations of becoming YouTube stars, we’re just hoping that these help people, with little free time, get an idea of what the game is like.
So now I hear you ask “Well if the games are free, can’t I just play it myself?”, Absolutely!, if you have the time, go for it, play for yourself and make your own opinion of them, and if they gets added to the pile, or do they get deleted. Personally I find that I’ve previously only attempted to play 1 or 2 games from the free offerings every month, as I’m normally busy with other stuff, or other games. The idea is, we all have a little free time to watch a video, so if you can watch a video to form enough of an option, then surely the videos help.
So finally I hear you ask “So you’re just going to concentrate of the free subscription offerings? Does this include Vita games?, and what platforms are you recording on?”. Our main aim is the record the first section of any free offerings, and get them uploaded to the YouTube channel as quickly as possible. However, we do play other games, and these will get the same treatment. Personally I’ve just started Bioshock 2 and recorded the first 20 minutes or so of that. Now I know that the majority of the world has played Bioshock 2, but there are still people that haven’t, and that video is recorded for them. “And the Vita stuff?”. I’m armed with a PlaystationTV, so if the Vita games offered as part of Playstation Plus as compatible with the PlaystationTV, I’ll happily record a ‘Quick Look’ video and share it with you, if not, then I won’t, simples. “And the platforms?”. We’re both armed with capture cards, as well as the recording facility on the PS4 and Xbox One, so this means that anything with a HDMI connector, we can be recorded. Obviously we both have PC/Mac computers and a substantial steam library, so expect a lot of PC videos going up too. Additionally we both have Apple devices, e.g. iPhone, iPad and 4th generation AppleTV allowing us to record from these also.
So that’s it, we’ve already been hard at work creating the videos from Februarys offerings, and a few other games on other devices, which will be uploaded to the YouTube channel in the coming days, please feel free to subscribe to the channel to get updated on when a new video goes up, and if you have any suggests of games, please let us know.
